Industry-leading Legal Expert Awarded Elite Women in Insurance

Danielle Wilkinson

Équité Association’s Danielle Wilkinson, VP, General Counsel, Chief Privacy Officer, and Corporate Secretary, has been recognized in ‘Insurance Business Canada’s Elite Women 2025’. Announced ahead of International Women’s Day, this award is given to women in insurance leadership who have made a meaningful contribution to insurance in the past year.

Danielle is an industry-leading legal expert whose insights and experience is a key part of how Équité is planning for the future of identifying and combatting insurance crime. Danielle’s in-depth background in insurance allows her to leverage her legal expertise to enhance fraud detection measures and to advocate for legislative amendments that will combat insurance crimes and improve our members' ability to mitigate it from their businesses.

What elevates Danielle from an industry leader to a woman of influence is her dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion both within the insurance industry and within her community. Her dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion aligns with Équité’s core values. She inspires positive change through industry-leading legal expertise and brings her core values of uplifting those around her and maintaining integrity in every decision she makes.

Danielle is a member of the Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals and Link LGBTQ+ Insurance Network where she advocates for representation, inclusion, and advancement of diverse insurance professionals within the Canadian insurance industry. She is also currently a board member for Durham Community Health Centre, a registered charitable organization that provides services to community members who have barriers to accessing healthcare.

When she is not leading the industry in combatting insurance fraud and crime from a legal lens, Danielle is helping young lawyers through formal and informal mentorship opportunities that extend from the practice of law to balancing priorities and career development.

Organizationally, Équité’s ongoing commitment to embracing equality in the workplace includes:

  • Achieving gender parity at the senior leadership level (directors and above), and at the Board level with 50/50 board representation;
  • Offering bespoke professional development and mentoring opportunities for all employees; and
  • Offering women at the management level (and above) the opportunity to enroll in the ISC Groups of “Aspire” or “Executive” membership programs, which include webinars, workshops and mentoring opportunities geared toward and for women.

Danielle joins a team of elite women leaders at Équité: Karrina Dusablon, VP, Member and Employee Engagement & Chief Marketing Officer, who was named one of Canada's Elite Women in Insurance in 2024; Angel Yau-Vandenburg, VP, Chief Data & Technology Officer was awarded in 2023, and Équité’s President and CEO, Terri O’Brien received the same recognition in 2022.
