Terri O'Brien

Terri brings over 25 years of experience in financial services, including all facets of risk management, fraud, leadership and growth strategies to Équité Association. Prior to Équité, Terri was Chief Risk Officer at Interac Corp., and has held senior executive roles at TD Bank, as well as other financial institutions earlier in her career. 

An astute and innovative leader, Terri integrates risk practices into strategic planning and governance. Adept at both business management and technology-driven methodologies, Terri believes that people are the third foundational support for success. Her leadership focuses on communication, transparency and coaching, supporting both institutional and personal growth within her teams. 

With a double major in Finance & Systems Architecture, B.Comm from the Ted Rogers School of Business Management, Terri also has a history of serving her community. Dedicating her time to increasing financial literacy, a gap that is still prevalent in Canada, Terri speaks to young women, from their early teenage years to young adulthood. She contributes to increasing the financial literacy of these groups, while encouraging them to pursue a career in business and is a strong supporter of women in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Terri has testified in the House of Commons as an expert witness on “Cybersecurity in the Financial Sector as a National Economic Security Issue” in 2019, and on the “National Auto Theft Crisis” in 2024.

Karrina Dusablon
VP, Member and Employee Engagement & Chief Marketing Officer

Karrina Dusablon

Karrina Dusablon brings 25 years of insurance experience in business development, client relationships and member communications. Before joining Équité Association, she worked for two large insurance companies, and most recently led a law firm. Karrina is a collaborative leader, bringing expertise in developing and implementing strategic communication plans that maximize business growth, and employee/member engagement.

Karrina believes in lifelong learning, building strong relationships and giving back to the community. It is an essential part of her philosophy towards work and life. It fuels innovation, progress and passion when you embrace growth, you are investing in not only your future but the individuals that surround you.

Karrina was nominated as one of the Avantages’ (Benefits Canada) Top 30 Industry Personalities in 2019 in the field of insurance. A sought-after industry speaker, with exceptional relationship management and communication skills, Karrina inspires and motivates teams to embrace change and achieve results. She has a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University, majoring in Industrial Relations with a focus on management, economics, and industrial sociology.

Bryan Gast
VP, Investigative Services

Bryan Gast

Bryan Gast brings 30 years of experience in law enforcement, including a posting as Detective Inspector in the Criminal Investigation Branch with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). His experience includes 19 years in the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch managing/investigating all facets of insurance fraud investigations, corporate fraud investigations, identity theft investigations, health care fraud investigations and other complex criminal investigations.  

Bryan recognizes the importance of stakeholder collaboration in the fight against fraud and strives to build and maintain partnerships.

Previously, Bryan has served as the National Director of Investigative Services at the Insurance Bureau of Canada. He was the Unit Commander of the OPP Anti-Rackets Economic Crimes and Corruption Unit, and Unit Commander of the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch Provincial Identity Crimes Unit.

Kevin Matthews
VP, Finance & Chief Financial Officer

Kevin Matthews

Kevin brings over 25 years of leadership experience in financial services, transportation, and economic development to his role at Équité Association.

Prior to joining the organization, Kevin led a team responsible for workplace strategy and transformation at Metrolinx. He also held various executive roles at TD, demonstrating a strong track record in the financial sector. As an innovative leader, he excels at generating value through strategic transformational initiatives leveraging a unique combination of vision and change management expertise to optimize operational effectiveness. Kevin’s passion lies in developing the next generation of leaders through coaching and mentorship.

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Economics, Finance & Accounting from Wilfrid Laurier University, and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

Danielle Wilkinson
VP, General Counsel, Chief Privacy Officer, & Corporate Secretary

Danielle Wilkinson

Danielle is a seasoned litigator with over 15 years of insurance defence experience working for Canada’s leading P&C Insurers, having conducted over 40 hearings and speaking engagements. With her extensive industry insight from both private practice and her work as in-house counsel for Aviva Canada and Intact Insurance, Danielle is a skilled negotiator, achieving hundreds of favourable resolutions for her clients.

Danielle is passionate about optimizing corporate objectives through the practice of law. Her industry approach is highly collaborative and built on the foundations of legal expertise and ethics. Danielle’s practice has been focused on complex cases and matters of reputational risk where she has established a track record of excellence and innovation. Danielle is also experienced in privacy matters, having worked closely with Chief Privacy Officers, with a focus on Accident Benefits Claims and Claims privacy issues.

Danielle graduated with a B.A Hons. and J.D. from Queen’s University. She has additionally taught litigation, contracts, administrative law, and accident benefits at Durham College.

Angel Yau-Vandenburg
VP, Chief Data & Technology Officer

Angel Yau-Vandenburg

Angel brings over 20 years of experience in fraud and risk management, strategy and analytics. She has led key initiatives including implementation of a suite of advanced analytics along with third party technology solutions to proactively detect and prevent financial crimes, and insurance crime. Most recently, Angel was a senior leader at Aviva Canada where she successfully led a team in developing and implementing data driven identification of fraud through advanced analytics.

Angel is a strong believer in the balance of art and science, which drives key successes and achieves goals. 

Angel holds a Master of Science degree in Mathematics & Statistics from the University of Guelph. She serves as a youth leader at her local church, and, Angel is a competitive powerlifter at the international level.
