This announcement underscores the government's commitment to tackling this complex problem, aligned with the findings of Équité's recently released 2024 Auto Theft Trend Report. The announcement highlights the alarming connection between organized crime and the funding of illicit activities, including the trafficking and distribution of dangerous drugs through the proceeds of auto theft.
