This Fraud Prevention Month (FPM), Équité Association collaborated with our members, as well as industry stakeholders, to use our unified voice to raise awareness about insurance crime and fraud prevention. Our largest fraud awareness campaign to date, this year’s FPM saw our continued growth in industry leadership and collaboration.
We saw tremendous success through high engagement in our educational articles, industry partnerships, virtual presentations, and leadership profiles of our members.
For me, this year’s campaign was especially important, as we are bringing forward momentum from a year of unprecedented awareness and action on auto theft in Canada. While auto theft trends across Canada are declining, rising trends in other types of insurance crime are affecting public safety during a changing landscape. Now more than ever, industry unity and collaboration is critical as we work together to contribute to safer communities and protect Canadians against insurance crimes.
Our members are doing remarkable work to combat fraud all year around. Our FPM member profiles featured interviews with senior industry leaders about how their organizations are working to keep their clients and communities safe from insurance crime and fraud.
Member Features and Collaborations
New this year, we built on our longstanding relationships with partners, inviting them to participate by sharing their expertise with our community. We amplified important messaging from Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO), Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) and Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO).
Partner articles and collaborations
As Canada’s national authority on insurance crime and fraud prevention, Équité spokespeople participated in several FPM events to raise awareness and provide insight on insurance fraud prevention for our members and industry partners. Notably, our regional Directors of Investigative Services delivered virtual presentations for members throughout the month. Additionally, Bryan Gast, National VP, Investigative Services presented alongside Sam Cosentino, Director, Enforcement, OMVIC, to car buyers, drivers and brokers about the rising trends of chop shops and re-VINs.
Fighting fraud independently on a claim-by-claim basis is not sustainable. This type of industry collaboration and unified voice shows our collective dedication to fraud prevention. Insurers are doing more than ever to protect their customers, and Équité members have access to specific anti-fraud expertise designed to prevent and disrupt insurance crime. A collaborative industry approach is key to combatting the growing insurance crime problem in Canada.
