Équité Association was born out of social purpose, understanding that insurance crimes disproportionately affect the most disenfranchised and marginalized communities.
Equity and equality are two words often used interchangeably. However, there are key differences; equity acknowledges that people do not begin life in the same place and that circumstances can make it more difficult for people to achieve the same goals. Inequity affects many people, but most commonly and historically, it has impacted marginalized communities and groups, such as women, people of color, disabled people, the economically disadvantaged, and those from the LGBTQ2+ community.
During Pride Month, we join others as we celebrate the accomplishments of the LGBTQ2+ community and their diverse talents. When Équité began building our organization in 2021, we prioritized building the foundation of what our organization would grow to become. Our Values were drafted by our culture committee, which was driven by our employees from coast to coast, and across all levels. From their inception, into our present and future, we hold ourselves accountable to these values.
Creating safe spaces looks different all year round. At Équité we encourage staff to include their pronouns on their signatures, our President and CEO, Terri O’Brien, speaks about our commitment to our values at our monthly internal team meetings, and we underscore our commitment to diversity and inclusion directly in our talent searches.
“For me, a workplace culture is more than just a statement that lives on our website and annual report”, says Terri O’Brien, President and CEO of Équité Association. “Embracing a diverse and inclusive culture has been my top priority at Équité. I take pride embodying our values every day, all year-round, and see them reflected across all of our colleagues across the country.”
