As Canada’s national authority on insurance crime, our achievements demonstrate the effectiveness of our strategy as we continue to protect Canadians, support members, and advance our strategic objectives.
We continue to focus on the importance of addressing insurance crime to keep Canadians safe and stemming the flow of funds into organized crime. Équité was at the centre-point of collaboration between the industry, law enforcement, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), government, and industry partners. These partnerships saw the success of large-scale projects and the recovery of stolen vehicles, as well as repatriation efforts. As trusted experts, we increased operational efforts to deliver ~$185M in value to the industry.
The overwhelming success of our Auto Theft is a National Crisis public awareness campaign and the launch of ÉQ Insights signified turning points for fraud prevention and detection. We made significant strides to move the industry to a ‘predict and prevent’ model with ÉQ Insights, and we will see further enhancements in 2024, including the introduction of complex network analysis. At a time when individuals and the industry bear extraordinary costs, and the cost of living and inflation are already high, prevention is more important than ever.
Insurance crime has never been more complex and staying ahead of it requires top talent. In 2023, we welcomed new talent to an already skilled team. Alongside operational excellence, we are nurturing a collaborative, authentic culture, which makes every achievement resonate with a team passionate about eradicating insurance crime.
With auto theft at national crisis levels deeply impacting the safety in our communities, it was easy to feel like we were swimming against the current. In times of crisis, poets provide a guiding light. Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Mary Oliver wrote, “Said the river: imagine everything you can imagine, then keep on going.” Our 2023 achievements were made possible because Équité approaches our mission with this same mindset: together, we can imagine new solutions and overcome the obstacles that enable insurance crime. With confidence, we continue towards a shared future together of protecting Canadians against insurance crime.
