About the Role

We use a wide range of data and intelligence to achieve four objectives:

  • Help insurers identify fraud through integrated advanced analytics and investigations;
  • Enhance and enable cross-insurer investigations coordinated by Équité;
  • Lead stakeholder in vehicle and hard-asset recover & identification services; and
  • Support law enforcement, regulators, professional colleges and other public investigative agencies to identify criminals and bring them to justice. We will also endeavour to raise public awareness about consumer scams: how they work and how to detect and prevent them.

The Principal Software Engineer, reports to the Director, Head of Technology Solutions and requires the ability to anticipate needs, think critically, and offer solutions to problems with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.  

The Principal Software Engineer role is primarily responsible for providing technical leadership for the Technology Solutions team(s) and breaking down the tactical tasks in order to achieve the strategic goals of the department. Working with the Director, Head of Technology Solutions and the platform engineering team, the successful candidate will ensure best practices in in architecture, design, design patterns and coding in order to improve the reliability, sustainability and maintainability of our data lake platform.

Specific accountabilities include

  • Leading the efforts and planning to ensure all processes are followed that lead to the technical requirements are sufficiently containing architecture and design documentation
  • Mentoring and reviewing of code to ensure clean coding practices are followed
  • Mentoring and reviewing of code to ensure TDD practices are followed
  • Mentoring and reviewing that code is regularly refactored to enhance code readability, maintainability and best practices
  • Providing best practices for architecting and maintaining cost-efficient code base as required in the chosen cloud environment.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of software development work experience
  • A university degree in the field of Information Technology or equivalent experience
  • Strong skills in mentoring individuals
  • A deep understanding of software development design patterns
  • Experience with micro service infrastructures and development practices
  • Linux OS and shell scripting
  • Experience with AWS
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as code and Terraform Cloud Enterprise
  • Proficiency in Python, Object Oriented Programming
  • Strong experience with CSV’s, CI/CD tools and automation workflows, at least for application deployment
  • Strong experience in release management and branching techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a friendly, collaborative attitude
  • Comfortable and excels within remote work
